Adriaan & Lindsay’s big day had the makings of a stunning rustic chilled out wedding, at one of the most scenic venues on the KZN north coast. It was a scorching hot morning which I wasn’t prepared for because I was rushing around shooting in a black shirt and long trousers, then the afternoon cooled down in time for the outdoor ceremony on the bank of the river. I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of people who I know, first was the legendary Durban musician Dave Birch who I shared a stage with at Splashy Fenn and other music festivals back in my band days, then my mom’s oldest school friends son named Boris was there with his wife, he works for the same company as Adriaan, and lastly there was also a videographer whose name escapes me who I had worked with at a wedding.
There was a lot of décor for me to take photos of including a bicycle with a flower basket, mason jars, books, pots, suitcases and ornaments. The juice dispensers and sweets table were a hit. Open air receptions that are dimly lit are always tricky for photography so I used a mixture of prime lenses and flash. By the end of the formalities when the summer rain started I was hungry, thirsty, tired and drained so I packed up my equipment and began the long journey home. I put in a good days work at a memorable wedding!
